Title : A narrative reflection on the history and development of the Global Teacher Inquiry Project (GTIP)
Description : A narrative reflection on the history and development of the Global Teacher Inquiry Project (GTIP) This presentation will outline the narrative arc of Manitoba Education’s Grade Twelve course - Global Issues- Citizenship and Sustainability from curriculum development to teacher action research. This story began in 2009 with the creation of a rare social studies course based on inquiry learning and student action. This curriculum development was lead by consultants from Manitoba Education and a team of teachers who wished to provide students with an opportunity to link critical inquiry with practical experience in citizenship for sustainability. Once the new course was introduced to the high school curriculum in 2011, a diverse group of educators joined together to create an innovative way to support those teachers who were to be the first to introduce this course. The project was titled the Global Teaching Inquiry Project (GTIP) and has been running for the past four years. It is a collaborative group that supports each other’s teacher action research for improving the inquiry process and student take action projects. It is based on the premise that, who better to provide voice for improving inquiry teaching than teacher researchers.
