Title : Engaging students though inquiry in Canadian history
Description : History of Canada is a mandatory course for Grade 11 students in Manitoba. The course is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of our nation`s rich and colourful history from the arrival of our First Peoples through to the complexities of our developing role in a modern global society. The grade 11 History of Canada curriculum supports citizenship as a core concept and engages students in historical inquiry. I have been teaching Canadian history at Sisler High School for more than ten years. My philosophy is to bring history to life for students. In this session, I share reflections on my classroom practice using an inquiry approach to help students develop a personal connection to Canada`s ever-evolving story that reaches out to our global community alliances. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” (Aristotle)
