Title : Inquiry into the role for education in growing community food security
Description : Manitoba is experiencing greater instances of food insecurity in affordability, accessibility, and food knowledge. Statistics show that nearly 64,000 Manitobans used food banks between March of 2015 and March of 2014, a 3.4 percent increase from the previous year. This presentation considers how education may be effectively leveraged as a community asset and the potential for schools to become sites of critical praxis for tangible food security in their communities. The session will highlights feature various research and current models of alternative approaches to teaching and learning related to food security.
