Title : Tipachimowin: Stories from the Winnipeg Education Centre program
Description : This session provides an overview of a qualitative research study about Aboriginal students and professors involved in the Winnipeg Education Centre (WEC) teacher education program. WEC was an inner city teacher education program that was established in the 1970s to address the need for more Aboriginal teachers in Manitoba and to address poverty issues in education. The study shares student stories of life journeys and educational experiences at WEC that reveal the impact of this teacher education program. It also explores the pedagogy of two professors who taught at WEC during the 1980s.
