Title : Navigating the complex terrain of Indigenous research: Building relationships for successful collaboration in Manitoba
Description : Cultural positionalities can advance or impede research efforts especially for non-aboriginal researchers in First Nations communities. Trust-based relationships are essential and critical for successful First Nations research. While researchers can offer research benefits and value propositions to research participants and their communities, they are in themselves insufficient to engender trust, buy-in and support for First Nations research. Through a critical self-reflection, this non-Aboriginal researcher phenomenologically examines alternative but essential internal and external relationship elements and paradigms necessary for research in First Nations communities in Manitoba; and offers a set of guiding principles that could be utilized by non-Aboriginal researchers.
