Title : Forest and Nature School: Place-based learning
Description : I have worked in the childcare field for over 40 years. I believe that children must have the opportunity to build a respectful relationship with mother earth. Being outside in nature is the traditional way of educating our children and connecting them to the earth. The forest and nature school we see today are relatively new to Canada but Aboriginal people have been offering land-based education to their children over time. Forest and nature school programs allow children to have repeated access to the same space in the forest or field and the programs follow emergent, experiential and place-based learning approaches.
