Title : Student engagement in learning at the local community level
Description : The Global Issues curriculum states that successful Take Action projects must make a difference in the lives of students and communities. They must be goal-oriented, meaningful, important, relevant, and may occur with a local, national, or global focus. In this session, Larry Smith will share his experience teaching Global Issues and his findings that is the projects at the local level that seem to be the most meaningful and rewarding for most of his students. Improving the lives of people around us has benefits to not only those in need, but to the community as a whole; and can potentially lead to a greater understanding of broader, more abstract issues at the global level.
