Title : Small-scale school projects that make a difference: The Manitoba grants for innovation in education program
Description : Since 2004, the MB4Youth Division of Healthy Living, Citizenship, and Education has supported 90 citizenship education projects through the Manitoba Grants for Innovation in Citizenship Education Program. The Grants are intended to:
- Engage students in opportunities to explore and practice active democratic citizenship through hands-on activities or projects
- Encourage schools to develop innovative projects that build citizenship
- Support and contribute to best practices in citizenship education
Successful projects receive $1,000 to support the projects, and, although the grants are relatively small, many of the projects have "made a difference" in the schools and communities. Based on reviewing the results of the projects over the years it is possible to identify some best practices of citizenship education programs in Manitoba.

This presentation will provide information about the program, identify some of the best practices in citizenship education in Manitoba, and feature some of the educators and students who have participated in the program.
