Title : "A voice for parents in rural Manitoba"
Description : The Manitoba Association of Parent Councils (MAPC) is the provincial association that helps provide a voice for parents and parent councils in this province. While the central office is in Winnipeg, MAPC has over half of its volunteer Board Directors from rural Manitoba. This presentation will explore the many services that MAPC can offer rural parents. One of the services that is perhaps of more value to rural parents is access to the Advocacy Project. Depending on their location, some parents may not have access to as many support services as their urban counterparts. The Advocacy Project helps parents, students, and parent councils who are having trouble resolving an issue within the public school system. One of our trained volunteer parent advocates will be assigned to work with each client with a guarantee of confidentiality.
