Title : Your Power To Choose: teaching citizenship, democracy and participation in elections
Text : This session introduces the YOUR POWER TO CHOOSE program, highlighting skills for teaching the electoral process from an unbiased, non-political perspective. Activities will be demonstrated, with a question and answer period to follow. The YOUR POWER TO CHOOSE education guide was developed to meet a goal common to educators and Elections Manitoba – to create life-long learning skills and the habit of participation among Manitobans. YOUR POWER TO CHOOSE explores the four phases of an election, using hands-on activities and games to provide the complete election experience. Elections Manitoba is an independent (non-political) office in charge of running elections in Manitoba. It is our job to conduct free, fair and accessible elections for all Manitobans. It is our mandate to provide education and information programs in order to make the electoral process better known to the public, particularly to those persons and groups most likely to experience difficulties in exercising their democratic rights.
